HALF WINDSOR KNOT

One of the most versatile knots around, not to mention stylish and suits neckties that have medium to light thick fabric. Perfect for a spread collar.

  1. In the beginning, the wide end of the tie should be on your right side and the other end should be on your left side.
  2. Place the tie around your neck with the wide end hanging 12 inches lower than the narrow end. Then cross the wide end over the narrow end.
  3. Pull the wide end behind the narrow end. Then take the wide end and pull it through the gap between the collar and necktie.
  4. Next, take the wide end and wrap over the narrow end of the tie.
  5. Then pull the wide end again through the gap between the collar and tie.
  6. Don’t pull tight yet to allow for a loop on top of the knot.
  7. Pull the wide end of the tie through the loop on top of the knot. Pull tight and adjust the knot to sit centered between your collar. That’s all there is to it.

  2. Hold the tie so the seam faces upwards and the wide end is longer than the other, about twice as long.
  3. Cross the wide end under the thin end.
  4. Wrap the wide end up and through the loop around your neck, then pull it through so the seam is facing up on the same side as before.
  5. Cross the wide end over the thin end.
  6. Push the wide end up and under the loop around your neck
  7. Tuck the wide end through the knot, as in step six, and pull it through.
  8. You have now completed the Pratt knot! When you pull and adjust the tie you should have a nice dimple created.

MURRELL KNOT

The Murrell is an inversion of the classic Windsor knot. It’s completed creates a playful layered look.

  1. Start with the small end of the tie on the right and wide end on the left. The top of the wide end should rest slightly below your belly-button. Only move the small end of the tie.
  2. Small end over the wide end to the left. Up into the neck loop from underneath.
  3. Down the left. Around the back of the end to the right. Up to the centre, towards neck loop. Through the neck loop and down to the right. Across the front to the left. Up into the neck loop from underneath. Down through the loop you’ve just made at the front.

Start with the wide end on your right. It will be the active end moving. Cross the two ends with the wide on top. The wide end goes back to the right underneath the narrow end. Back to the left over the narrow end. Up underneath the neck loop and down into the loop you just created. Tighten.

TRINITY KNOT

Looking for some swagger for your style? Then the trinity knot is sure to turn heads.

  1. To tie the Trinity knot, raise the shirt collar and drape the tie around the neck with the wide edge hanging on the right side, just above the navel.
  2. Just below the collar, pinch the wide side of the tie long ways to form a dimple in the fabric.
  3. Take the thin part and cross it over the thick part.
  4. Bring the thin end up through the neck opening.

  6. Cross it under the thick part of the tie and to the other side, the wrong side up.

  8. Pull it through the neck opening and toward the right to form a heart shape.
  9. Move it across the heart shape and bring it up through the neck loop.

  11. Then move it behind the thick portion to the other side.
  12. Bring the now short end up and through the loose loop.
  13. Adjust the knot for tightness and symmetry and tuck the end under the neckline. Fold down the shirt collar for a finished look.
